The strategic communications office (SCO), originally a four-member team (Maribel Cifuentes, Linda Niebauer, Rita Bertolli, Frank deGruy), was established in 2009 to improve internal communications among our large, far-flung department; as well as to enhance external communications across our campus, into the community, and with other FM departments across the country.
As our Department has grown, so has the importance and complexity of our communications and employee relations. With new faces and functions being established, our expertise has also grown, moving the SCO to reflect upon itself and design a structure that can better integrate our department’s communication tasks into three separate (yet overlapping) teams all working to execute important communication functions on behalf of the department:
- Human Resources, led by Deanna Schroder, will assume responsibility for organizing Department events such as quarterly meetings and the Spring Fling; promoting employee engagement through fun activities such as First Fridays, Pi(e) Day, and Family Fitness; recognition & awards through activities such as DFM players of the year and employee recognition programs; tending and caring for the department’s built environment so that it is an inviting place to work and spend time; and providing opportunities for professional growth and development. Linda Niebauer, Mollie Bailey, Stephanie Mitchell and Laura Nichols will be working with Deanna on these endeavors. If you would also like to assist, or have a specific need that can be addressed by this team, feel free to contact Deanna.
- Integrated Communications & Technology will be led by Michele Doucette, who has already illustrated her talents for organizing and presenting information in many ways. Her team will manage the following: websites (internal and external), calendars, e-newsletters, social media (FB, Twitter, YouTube), education technology (online CME offerings and various SharePoint sites). Robyn Wearner, Mollie Bailey, David Clute, Deanna Schroder, and Linda Niebauer are also on this team; if you would like to contribute or have further questions, please get in touch with Michele.
- Special Projects will continue to be shepherded by Maribel Cifuentes and will include the Levitt Distinguished Speaker Series, the DFM Field Report, Triple Aim Team communications, and other departmental communication projects as assigned by the Chair and Executive Committee. Her core group consists of Linda Niebauer, Rita Bertolli and Mollie Bailey, although additional individuals may be included from time to time – depending on the project.
